Nov. 7, 2023 Referendum Results: Voters Pass Question 1, Deny Question 2

    Thank you to our community - voters in the Lakeville Area School District 194 approved Question 1, an operational levy request to staff and operate the new elementary school, Highview Elementary. The vote was 55.6% yes to 44.4% no (unofficial results: 5,398 yes votes, 4,312 no votes). The operational levy amounts to about $4 per month for the average homeowner ($465,000 home value).

    Voters denied Question 2 on the ballot, however, which was an operational levy request to expand mental health, behavioral and academic support across all schools, and the means to attract and retain highly-qualified staff. The vote was 49.3% yes to 50.7% no (unofficial results: 4,782 yes votes, 4,924 no votes).

Growing Together

  • On Nov. 7, Lakeville Area School district residents will vote on whether to approve funding to staff and operate Highview Elementary, the new elementary school opening Fall 2024. The request also includes a second question for funds to attract and retain highly-qualified staff, and to expand K-12 mental health, behavioral and academic support services.

    The referendum request is in response to continued student and community growth, putting pressure on existing elementary school space, and to foster academic excellence for all of our growing K-12 students.

    The Lakeville Area Schools community is growing

    The Lakeville area is popular, in large part due to the quality of our schools. So popular, in fact, that while our total K-12 student enrollment is conservatively projected to grow more than 30% in the next decade, our elementary enrollment is conservatively projected to continue to grow more than 17% in the next five years. Over the last 5 years, our elementary enrollment has grown more than 500 students, and based on projections, we anticipate at least 900 more elementary students in the next five years.

    Our Lakeville area community has and continues to see a strong demand for housing development and is expected to see residential growth for the foreseeable future.

    It is the school district’s job to provide nurturing learning environments and a well-rounded education that prepares our students to excel. This is what our community expects and our students deserve. In short, when our community grows, our schools need to grow as well. Growing Community = Growing Schools.

     

    What will be on the ballot?

    The ballot asks voters to consider :

    • Question 1 asks voters to consider increasing general education funds to staff and operate the new elementary school.
    • Question 2 asks voters to consider increasing general education funds to expand K-12 mental health, behavioral and academic support, and the means to attract and retain highly-qualified staff. Question 2 can only pass if Question 1 also passes.
