Title I

Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), provides financial assistance to local educational agencies (LEAs) and schools with high numbers or percentages of children from low-income families to assist schools in ensuring that all children meet challenging academic standards. Districts or schools accepting Title I funds are required to provide all children with fair, equitable and significant educational opportunities to obtain a high-quality education and to reach – at a minimum – proficiency on challenging state academic standards and assessments.
Title I Targeted Assistance
Targeted Assistance is a supplemental program provided during the regular school day to raise the achievement level of students most at risk of not meeting academic standards. Title I funds are used to provide academic support in math and reading and increase opportunities for parents’ involvement in their students’ education.

Title I Schoolwide Programs
A Schoolwide Program is a comprehensive school improvement effort designed to elevate the entire educational program of a Title I school. The Schoolwide Program option allows Title I schools to pursue comprehensive reform strategies — rather than separate, add-on services — to raise the achievement level of students most at risk of not meeting academic standards. Multiple resources including Title I funds are used to strengthen the academic program in the school for all students and accelerate the progress of students who would otherwise be eligible for Title I Targeted Assistance services.
