On May 11, Lakeville Area School district residents will vote whether to approve funding to build and equip a new elementary school, including the purchase of land. The referendum request is in response to continued student and community growth, putting pressure on existing elementary school space. The School Board placing this request on a May 11 ballot following months of building planning discussions.

Why Now?

Lakeville Area Schools are Growing

The Lakeville area is popular, in large part due to the quality of our schools. So popular, in fact, that while our total K-12 student enrollment is projected to grow more than 20% in the next decade, our elementary enrollment is projected to grow more than 20% in the next five years. Based on projections, we anticipate 1,000 more elementary students in the next five years.

Our Community is Growing

According to the city of Lakeville: “Lakeville has been the statewide leader in single-family housing construction for several years. During the last four years more than 1,700 new homes, townhomes and apartment buildings have been approved in Lakeville. Last year alone, Lakeville added more than 550 residential buildings. Our community continues to see strong demand for housing development and is expected to see robust residential growth for the foreseeable future.”

It is the school district’s job to provide safe and appropriate learning environments for our students and our staff - this is what our community expects and our students deserve. In short, when our community grows, our schools need to grow as well.
