Lakeville Students Shine in State Leadership Conference

April 24, 2024

On April 7-9, the annual HOSA, previously known as Health Occupations Students of America, state leadership conference served as the final Minnesota event and the qualifier for the International Leadership Conference, with Lakeville Area Schools’ students making a triumphant return after a three-year absence.

Over the three-day conference, 13 Lakeville North High School students and one Lakeville South High School student showcased their skills, participating in various competitions and educational sessions. Each student competed in up to two in-person events, one virtual event, and two testing events, highlighting their expertise in diverse areas ranging from medical skills like phlebotomy to research presentations on health-related topics.

Sasha Lounin (LNHS, grade 11) dominated the Phlebotomy Skills Event, securing 1st place, while Jack Trygstad (LSHS, 9) displayed versatility by clinching 2nd place in Extemporaneous Writing and 4th in Medical Reading. Trygstad's achievements were further elevated as he was elected to the State Officer Team for the upcoming school year, an honor for an underclassman.

Both Lounin and Trygstad's stellar performances earned them eligibility to compete at the International Leadership Conference in Houston, Texas, scheduled for June 26-29, where they will represent their schools and communities on a global platform.
