Students of the Month: April 2024

April 10, 2024

Lakeville Area Schools has a Students of the Month recognition program that highlights an elementary, middle school and high school student each month. Students are nominated by staff members. The superintendent meets each student to present them with a recognition award and a gift bag donated by the Lakeville Chamber of Commerce and Visit Lakeville.

April's Students of the Month are:

Students of the Month

Davonye Landrum, 4th Grade, Orchard Lake Elementary School

Nominated by Carol Metz, music specialist

“Davonye should get a "Biggest Heart"! award!  Davonye is a caring person and has empathy for his classmates every day. He is the first to want to comfort someone who is sad or hurting. During our Day of Service at Orchard Lake (when students made gift bags for the Ronald McDonald House at Mpls Children's Hospital and collected donated items to put in the bags), Davonye went way above and beyond with his big heart.  As we were setting up tables with items Davonye came up to me all worried because he said he didn't get to donate.  He went back to his classroom and brought me his OWN crayons, a brand new eraser and a small pencil sharpener.  He wanted to give and donate to this cause and was willing to give ALL that he had!  I explained that he did not need to give his own crayons and that donations were made so that every student could give.”

Arianna Duque, 8th grade, Mcguire Middle School

Nominated by Ashley George, case manager

“Arianna is an awesome student who works hard not only in the classroom, but makes sure to always treat others kindly and set an example. She can often be found helping her friends complete work, and showing them how to do problems when they get confused. She also looks out for her younger siblings at school and makes sure they are figuring out how to navigate middle school. I am so proud of her. She is a great example of what type of leaders we are growing at McGuire.”

Alex Ricardo Rodriguez, 12th grade, Lakeville South High School

Nominated by Kathy Nida, school success liaison

“With a GPA of 3.75, placing him around the top 1/3 of his graduating class, Alex successfully balances his time between pursuing a challenging course load of AP and honors class, volunteering with the Messiah Food Pantry about +10 hours/week, and working +20 hours weekly. He also volunteers his time tutoring his peers; his thoughtful instruction creates an engaging environment where students feel comfortable asking and learning. Alex often demonstrates the willingness to go above and beyond . It is no surprise he is assigned as a Customer Service personnel and cashier at his workplace. For the above reasons, I am honored to nominate Alex as Student of the Month.”
