Lakeville South High School selects Blake Nicols as the next Head Girls Basketball Coach

 

On April 23rd, Activities Director Chad Sexauer announced the hiring of Blake Nicols as the next Head Girls Basketball Coach of Lakeville South HIgh School. Coach Nicols grew up and graduated from Lakeville South High School. Coach Nicols played high school basketball in the very gym where he will now grace the sidelines. He went on to play Men’s Basketball at Bethel University. Coach Nicols graduated from Bethel University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physical Education and Health Education.

 

Most recently, Coach Nicols has served as the Head Girls’ Basketball Coach at Andover High School. His leadership directed the Huskies to this year's MSHSL Girls’ State Tournament. Blake has guided the Andover High School program for the past six years. He has been the section coach of the year two times during tenure with the Huskie program - 2019/2020 and 2023/2024.

  • Andover High School - Girls Head Basketball Coach (6 Seasons)

  • New Prague Boys Head Basketball Coach (1 Season)

  • Andover High School Boys Basketball Assistant Coach (4 Seasons)

 

Coach Nicols Basketball positions outside of the MSHSL include:

  • Current Coach for the Minnesota Fury program

  • AAU director, coach and skills trainer for Wear Out the Net - 11 years

  • University of St. Thomas “Tommie Pride” Girls Basketball Camp - 6 years

  • Bethel University Youth Basketball Camps - 7 years

 

Personal Life:

Coach Nicols significant other is Maddie Wolkow, former Cougar Basketball player and South graduate. He had this to say when accepting the position, “I’m super excited to lead such a great program. The vision I have in leading this program will be centered around having a high level of passion and integrity in whatever we are doing as a basketball program. We will compete hard and strive to do some great things on the court each and every day, but most of all we still strive to develop our players to become the best versions of themselves, both on and off the court.
