    Mission: The Lakeville South STEM Academy will provide students with opportunities to develop critical thinking skills, creativity, collaboration, and communication for post-secondary and future readiness.?

    The STEM Academy at LSHS offers unique courses in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, giving students extraordinary knowledge and skills. STEM Academy serves career exploration in specific science and engineering pathways. The curriculum includes dedicated research classes founded upon the engineering processes, integrated contemporary technologies, and extensive problem-solving experience. Advanced Placement (AP) courses are incorporated as well.

    STEM Academy Pathways

    STEM Academy has four pathways:

    • Computer Programming
    • Biomedical
    • Engineering
    • Industrial Technologies

    Each pathway will build on a core of science and math offerings, provide engineering and technology opportunities, embed 21st century learning throughout multiple disciplines, and culminate in a real life Capstone project with a community connection.

    Students who complete the following requirements will get a STEM Academy designation on their transcript:

    • Eight semesters of math
    • Eight semesters of science
    • Engineering Your Future 1 & 2
    • One class in one of the STEM pathways
    • Capstone Course

What is STEM?

  • STEM education is an approach to teaching and learning that integrates the content and skills of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in classroom. STEM Standards of Practice guide STEM instruction by defining the combination of behaviors, integrated with STEM content, which are expected of a proficient STEM student. These behaviors include engagement in inquiry, logical reasoning, collaboration, and investigation. The goal of STEM education is to prepare students for post-secondary study and the 21st century workforce.
