Principal's Message

  • Principal Taber Akin Welcome to Eastview Elementary School!

I am excited to be an active part of this strong and successful school community. As the principal at Eastview Elementary School, I work hard to foster a safe and positive learning environment where all students experience high quality instruction, high expectations and learn to the best of their abilities. All of us at Eastview work to create and support a community dedicated to academic excellence.

I chose to be a part of this community and I'm excited that you made a similar choice. As you make the transition to Eastview, please let us know how we can assist you. There are no "stupid questions" or such a thing as too many questions. As you get to know staff, students and our wonderful school, please call upon any member of our staff to assist you with the transition.

In my view, this community of excellence has three primary players, the school staff, the students and parents. When all three of these individuals work together amazing personal and academic growth can take place for each child. This growth is fostered when students consistently do their best work, the parents and school staff clearly communicate with each other and when the adults provide encouragement and support. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to work in a leadership role with the staff and students at Eastview.

    My professional background:
My work in public education began in the Richfield Schools where I worked for ten years in a wide variety of teaching roles that included teaching third grade, analyzing data to improve instruction, assisting teachers in the implementation of the Minnesota graduation standards, integrating technology into classrooms and working with statewide testing. In 2005 I accepted a position with the Lakeville Area Public Schools as the district assessment coordinator. I worked in that capacity until February 2008 when I accepted the invitation to serve as the principal at Sioux Trail Elementary School in Burnsville. In 2013 I returned to the Lakeville Area Public Schools to be a part of the strong tradition of excellence at Eastview Elementary School.

In 1994 I graduated from Northland College with a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education and minor in Environmental Education. Both my Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and my Education Specialist in
K-12 Administration are from the University of St. Thomas.

Please contact any member of the Eastview staff (including me!) with questions, concerns or requests for additional information.

    Welcome to Eastview!
